How to scan with an HP printer?

Scanned documents and images from the printer, items captured with the computer camera, and data saved on the computer can all be scanned.

1.Open the HP Smart app and sign in or establish an account. Download HP Smart at 123.hp.com or your app store if you don’t already have it.

2.On the home screen, select the Scan tile.

3.From the top menu bar, choose an option.

4.Place the original on the scanner glass of the printer or into the automatic document feeder (ADF). Click Scan in the lower right corner after selecting the scan job type, size, color, and resolution settings.

  • Import: Apply a boundary to photos saved on your computer, then edit, print, and share using the options.
  • Camera: Captures, edits, prints, or shares a photo or document using the computer camera or a webcam.

5.To begin, click the Get Started button.

IMPORTANT:

  • When you initially select Scan, Import, or Camera, the Get Started screen appears.
  • Change options like document or phototype, page size, output type, source, and resolution in the Scan window to match the scan job.
  • Toggle the enhancement features on or off by selecting the Auto Enhancements icon.
  • Auto-Enhancements: Activate or deactivate the automated brightening and sharpening of colors and visual contrast.
  • Auto-Orientation: Enable or disable automatic rotation of photos to their proper orientation.

6.Select Scan.

7.The scan is shown as a preview.

Adjust the borders by clicking and dragging the blue dots if the Detect Edges dialogue appears.

8.Displays a preview of altering boundaries.

9.You can add another page to your scan, reorder multi-page scans, alter the file name or type, modify the scan, create a Shortcut, print, share, or save your scan from the Edit window.

10.When you’ve finished editing, click Done.

11.To deal with your scan, use the features in the Preview window.

  • Print: Make a copy of your scan and send it to your printer.
  • Save: The Documents folder is the default save place for scanned documents, while the Pictures library is the usual save a destination for scanned photographs. You can save your scan in the default folder or navigate to a different one.
  • Send your scan as an email attachment, post it on social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, or store it to a cloud storage service like Box or OneDrive. You may also search the Windows Store for more programs.
  • Shortcuts: For printing, emailing, or saving scanned files to cloud accounts, create or use a shortcut.

Send your scan to a fax machine.

Create a PDF of a scanned document with the HP Smart app.

  • Return to the Scan window by clicking Add in the Preview window for multi-page documents. Place the following page on the scanner glass or take a photo of it.
  • Repeat this step until all of your document’s pages have been scanned.
  • Change the file name and the file type to Basic PDF.

7.Options for saving and sharing scans from HP Smart.

  • To save the PDF to a folder on your computer, click Save, or to email or share the file, click Share.

When the printer is linked to a network, set up scan jobs using Chrome OS or Webscan.

NOTE: To use all printer functions, you must first establish or login into an HP account. If the HP Smart app does not work, go to HP Software and Driver Downloads and download HP Easy Start, then install the full feature driver.

Set up scan jobs through Chrome OS or use Webscan when the printer is connected to a network.

Use Chrome OS to scan documents and photos from a Chromebook.

  1. Update the Chromebook to the most current version of Chrome OS.
  2. Click the clock in the bottom right corner, and then click the Settings icon
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and then click Advanced.
  4. Under Print and scan, click Scan.
  5. Select your printer, and then change any settings in the menu on the right and More settings.
  6. Click Scan.
